Every time I hear that there is another toy recall, I think to myself - you have to be kidding! How do these dangerous toys even arrive at the shelves and at your fingertips in our curious children to begin with? Did the manufacturers realize that they were possibly damaging? Are there quality control measures to make sure this does not happen?
Lucky Boy Sunday
Personally, i know a sweet lady who's a mother of three young girls. When I was visiting together with her eventually, I noticed pictures of just a little boy around the walls and asked who it had been. She told me it had been her son who had died at age three whenever a toy got stuck in his throat. His father had tried desperately to get rid of the lodged toy, but his attempts were fruitless, and the child succumbed. I was horrified and can only imagine how much they both experienced this sad experience.
It is difficult to watch our kids every minute, but we can make every make an effort to remove any toys that could do harm from those that they play with every single day. Your kids also may receive toys as presents from well-meaning family members and friends for birthdays and holidays. How will you be sure that the toys you've in your house are safe for your children?
Another suggestion is to focus on age recommendations on toys. They're placed on the packages for a reason. You may think your son or daughter now has wrinkles enough to experience having a toy that's designed for a mature child, but toys with small or removable parts may cause injuries or asphyxiation. Some older kids also still prefer to put things in their nose, ears and mouths, so you are the best judge to be aware what is suitable for them.
If a toy is broken, it is advisable to dispose of it immediately. Be familiar with what's inside your toy box. If tiny or broken bits of toys can be found, clean them out.
If your little one gets to be a toy as a present or else you have purchased one which they wanted, you should attempt hard to break it (avoid them in front of the child, however). If you can yank on the stuffed toys eyes and they're loose, they could come off and obtain lodged within the child's throat. Try to consider ways that your child could use it and test to find out if the toy will break apart. You can also test all toy gifts since they were not given using the intention to harm the child. It is better safe than sorry.
